Stand-Alone Media Converters

Network connected devices can be anywhere in an enterprise or hardened network and when they are not located near the right cabling, network managers must extend the network to reach the device. This can happen when connecting a remote workstation or wireless access point, but increasingly involves non-IT systems such as security cameras. In many cases, these systems are located beyond the distance limitation of the installed copper cabling making fiber-optic cabling a necessity.

Stand-alone media converters facilitate this cabling need with a simple conversion device that makes the connection between copper and fiber cabling. Stand-alone media converters can be installed anywhere a network connection is needed. Stand-alone media converters install easily and come with features that allow fast network turn up, including auto-negotiation, auto-MDI/MDIX, and active link pass through. In addition, these media converters feature automatic link restoration for network restoration. They also increase the scalability of a network by providing rate conversion, distance extension, support for jumbo frames, and choices of fixed fiber connectors or open slots for Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) connections.

Transition Networks’ Stand-Alone Media Converters are ideal for facilitating the conversion of different cable types. Our converters support a variety of protocols including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, DS1, DS3, and more. Multiple types of conversion are available with our stand-alone converters including: fiber to fiber, copper to fiber, and copper to copper. Also, management of these converters is also available when paired with the matching chassis-based slide-in card in our ION Chassis with ION Management Module. With this management, our ION Multi-Service Integration Platform provides a total media conversion platform to work best in your network. Check out our Stand-Alone Media Converters below.
