Slot Power

Focal Point – Slot Power/Disabling a Slot

Individual Device slots in a cabinet can be powered on and off through the Focal Point application.

The primary Management Module in a stack can turn any Device slot on or off as long as the slot does not contain the primary Management Module or a Management Module that is serving as the Inter-Cabinet Interface (ICIF).

Slot Power states are saved in non-volatile memory and will be re-applied after a power cycle.

When a slot is powered down, the Focal Point application will show that the slot is empty even if it is not, since the Point System SNMP Agent will be unable to communicate with the powered-down device. However, the "Slot Powered Down" indicator will be shown on the slot to distinguish empty slots from those that are powered down.

Powering down the right hand slot of a double-wide device has no effect.

Turning slot power on and off (enabling and disabling a slot)

From the Cabinet View screen, RIGHT click on any slot to open the slot enabled/disable screen. There will be three buttons displayed. "Help" opens this file, and "Cancel" closes the dialog without making any changes. The third button will be either "Power ON this slot" or "Power OFF this slot" depending on the current state of the slot. Left click on this button to immediately enact the change as described by the text appearing on the button.
