CPSMC1800
This document describes the following Point System topics: Focal Point - CPSMC1800 Cabinet View Screen (back to top)

In the Point System family of products, multiple cabinets may be connected together via Inter-Cabinet Interface cables and managed by a single Point System SNMP Agent. The Cabinet View screen shows a summary view of one such cabinet.

Many of the LED indicators on the screen reflect the status of the actual LEDs on the equipment. Others do not, either because these indicators change too quickly for an SNMP management application to track in a meaningful way, or because the indicator is not accessible by software (often the latter is a result of the former). Hold the mouse cursor over an indicator to see its description. If the indicator is never updated, the description will say so.

The top section of the screen contains the following indicators and controls:

  • Serial Number - The serial number of the cabinet itself. Each individual Slide-In device also has its own serial number.
  • Cabinet Description - A text description of the cabinet that is defined by you. Maximum length is 63 characters.
  • Poll Rate - See the section on Refreshing the Cabinet View Screen below.
  • Device Model Number - The exact model number of this device. When contacting Technical Support, please be sure to give this number rather than the less specific Catalog number.
  • Power Supply One/Two - See the section on Making Configuration Changes - The Details Screen below.
  • Unwrap/Wrap - Switches the formatting of the screen between two rows of slots (which fits on a 1024x768 resolution screen) and a single row of slots (which looks more like the actual product).
  • Help - displays this screen.

Below these is a picture of the cabinet showing the slots and the faces of the devices plugged into them. In addition to depictions of the lamps found on the faces of these devices, there are three indicators which can appear on each device:

  • ALERT - This means that there may be a problem with this device, such as "link down." You can left-click on the device to find out more.
  • EDIT - This means that this device is selected to receive configuration changes made on Details screens (described below). Note that there may be other selected devices that are not shown because they appear on other Cabinet View screens. For more information on how devices can be selected, see help for Configuration Management.
  • SLOT POWER OFF - This slot has been disabled. It may or may not have a device plugged in to it -- since the power is off, the Management Module cannot tell. You can change the status of a slot by right-clicking on it and then clicking the "Power ON/OFF this slot" button.

Refreshing the screen (back to top)

By clicking the Refresh button, you can cause the Cabinet View screen to show any recent changes in LED indicators or Slide-in Devices.

Automatic updates are also performed at the interval shown (in seconds) in the "Poll Rate" box. To change the rate, type a new value (between 1 and 600 seconds) into the box and press Enter. Pick the slowest Poll Rate value that gives you the information you need, since more frequent updates place a greater load on your computer and your network.

Making Configuration Changes - The Details Screen (back to top)

Most Point System Slide-in Devices have detailed status information that can be viewed, and configuration options that can be changed. These capabilities are found on the Details screen for the Device.

From the Cabinet View screen, left-click on the image of an individual Slide-in Device in order to open its Details screen. To open the details screen for a power supply, click on the "Power Supply" buttons at the top of the screen. "Power Supply One" is on the left when viewing the cabinet from the rear.

For more information on making configuration changes, see help for Configuration Management.

CPSMC1800 Cabinet SNMP MIB Variables (back to top)

The following manageable features are available for the CPSMC1800 Cabinet:

  • BiaIndex - (Integer, read only) "Burned In Address." This is the serial number of this Cabinet.
  • Description - (String, read/write) A user-defined text description of this Cabinet. This is a mirror of the MIB variable cpsCabinetDescription.
  • PSPower1 - (Integer, read only) This variable has the value yes(1) if the power supply in the first power supply slot is capable of supplying power to the cabinet.
  • PSInUse1 - (Integer, read only) This variable has the value yes(1) if the power supply in the first power supply slot is currently supplying power to the cabinet.
  • PSPower2 - (Integer, read only) This variable has the value yes(1) if the power supply in the second power supply slot is capable of supplying power to the cabinet.
  • PSInUse2 - (Integer, read only) This variable has the value yes(1) if the power supply in the second power supply slot is currently supplying power to the cabinet.
  • MRevision - (Integer, read only) This is the "Marketing revision level" of the Cabinet. It is the last three digits of the part number.
