How to copy a Device Configuration from one slot to another

Copying a configuration from one slot to another is just one example of the many ways in which the Point System's Configuration Management features can be used.

  1. Open the Focal Point application, and open the Cabinet view(s) of the source and destination devices.

  2. Tell the Management Module which device(s) should receive the configuration changes:

This is done by entering one or more keywords into the the Group Control String blank on the main Focal Point screen. In this case, the keywords should be in the form "BBBBBB[S]" where BBBBBB is the serial number of the cabinet in which the destination device is installed, and S is the slot of the destination device, both without leading zeroes. (This is one of the Automatically Defined Keywords described elsewhere in this document.)

The serial number of the cabinet can be found either on the main screen or the Cabinet View Screen of Focal Point. Device Slot numbers are numbered from left to right with slot '1' being on the far left, and Power Supply Slots are numbered starting with slot 125.

The next time the cabinet view refreshes, the "EDIT" indicator will appear on the destination device(s).

  3. Click on the image of the source device on the Cabinet View Screen to open its Details Screen.

  4. Apply the configuration attributes you wish to copy by clicking the appropriate "Apply"/"Set"/"Enable/Disable" buttons next to the fields on the screen.

  5. Clear the Group Control String blank.
