Understanding WDM Technology and Which Option is Best for You
When met with the challenge of a fiber infrastructure that is exhausted and no option of pulling in more fiber optics, many network managers are turning to WDM (Wave Division Multiplexing) technologies in order to increase capacity on the fiber links that are already in place. By multiplexing multiple optical signals over a single strand of fiber, WDM technologies are able to expand fiber infrastructure capacity by factors of: 2, 8, 16, 32 and beyond. A quick study of WDM yields three major options: Bidirectional Wave Division Multiplexing (BWDM), Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM), and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM). This paper takes a look at the benefits and drawbacks of all three, as well as cost comparisons between each, in order to provide insight on which option is best for your needs.

Self-Paced Online Trainings
At this point, I hope you are all familiar with our weekly TN Now training seminars. Each week, two seperate training sessions are offered which cover various topics relevant to our industry. The sessions are always held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am CST and offer an informal means for gaining knowledge on networking, video, and media conversion technology. But what if that time slot doesn't fit into your schedule or the topic you are interested in isn't being offered this month? Well, Transition Networks is proud to announce the newest addition to our training portfolio: Self-Paced Online Trainings.
The self-paced online trainings offer a pre-recorded training and tutorial module that can be accessed and gone through at any time. In addition to the training, the presentation interface contains a variety of other utilities (data sheets, white papers, etc.) that you can access to further your understanding of the networking topic that is covered.
We currently have a module on Media Conversion Technology and another on Video Networking Security loaded and we plan to continue adding these valuable trainings.
These trainings can be accessed by clicking on the following link: Networking Webinars or, by going to
My TN Connection and clicking your training of choice under the "Free Self-Paced Online Trainings" header.
