Transition Networks Introduces MILAN by Transition Networks 24-port PoE Switch
to its Portfolio of Power over Ethernet Products

Roundout of Family Now Supplies Power to Wireless and Remote Applications

Minneapolis, MN — March 7, 2006 — The conversion technology expert, Transition Networks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc., today announced the latest addition to the family of Power over Ethernet (PoE) products – an 802.3af compliant PoE managed switch with (24) 10/100 copper ports and (2) 1000Base SFP uplinks. With this new switch, customers are now enable to power up to 24 wireless VoIP phones or other PoE devices at any given time.

The MIL-SM2401MAF series of MILAN by Transition Networks switches delivers a full 15.4Watts of DC power on each of twenty four ports. PoE ports provide data connection and the power source (PSE) for such PoE PD devices as Wireless Access Points, VoIP phones and Network Cameras. The switch includes a PD signature sensing and SNMP power monitoring features per the IEEE 802.3af standard. Other PoE features include Over-Current Protection and Under-Current Detection. The series is fully compatible with devices that comply with the IEEE 802.3af standard or it can also power non-compliant legacy products.

“With the integration of MILAN, Transition Networks now offers a full portfolio of PoE converters, injectors and switches for all aspects of network applications,” said Bill Schultz, vice president of marketing at Transition Networks. “Transition Networks is the only manufacturer to provide PoE solutions for high- and low-density requirements in fiber or copper networks. While high-density applications are served well by our MILAN by Transition Networks switches, low-density requests are served by Transition Networks's core media converters and power injectors.”

Product Features
Management features include PoE power Management per port, port based, dynamic or static VLANs, GVRP, IGMP, port mirroring and advanced port security. Security includes static addressing, filtering and blocking of packets to identified MAC addresses. Two priority queues per port insure minimum delay for voice over IP while IGMP optimizes the switching performance in video multicast applications. Console port provides local management while Telnet and Web-based management offer monitoring and configuration via any network device.

Non-blocking 8.8Gbps architecture assures rapid packet delivery while 8,000 MAC address table provides swift lookup and packet forwarding. Other features include spanning tree, 802.3x flow control, 802.1ad link aggregation and broadcast storm control.

Product Configuration and Availability
The product will be available for shipping in April. The list price will be $1595.00. Please contact Transition Networks or click here for additional information.
